Ultimate travel kicks on Route 66

28th April 2017 By David Pike Leave a Comment

Santa Monica Route 66 SignUltimate travel kicks on Route 66 – It is known as the Will Rogers Highway, the Main Street of America and the Mother Road – but we know it best as Route 66.

The highway dates back to 1926 and became part of popular culture 40 years or so later when The Rolling Stones included (Get Your Kicks on) Route 66 on their first album; around about the same time as we were tuning in to the Route 66 television show.

“It winds from Chicago to LA, more than 2,000 miles all the way,” – ahh happy days, Jagger at his best.

If travelling Route 66 is still on your bucket list, Medway Leisure Travel can turn dreams into reality.

Medway has created the ultimate 21-night USA road trip adventure by combining Route 66 route across the heartland of America, with Highway 1, taking in California’s stunning Pacific coastline.

TravMedia_United_Kingdom_medium-sized_1208134_SS-Route-66-canyon-mountain-roadsStarting in Chicago, you’ll follow the Mother Road west. Enjoy taking in the sights of preserved Route 66 memorabilia, impressive landscapes and modern infrastructure whilst capturing the best of US culture. During the trip, you’ll sleep in a Wigwam, visit the mighty Grand Canyon and experience the bright lights of Las Vegas.

After a quick switch of cars in Los Angeles, you’ll journey along one of the world’s most scenic routes that leads to San Francisco. Swing by charming surf towns, travel through the winelands and discover romantic hideaways as you explore California’s rugged Pacific coastline, arguably one of the most beautiful routes in the world.

On August 21 this year (2017), road trip travellers will also be able to witness nature’s celestial spectacle, taking place across the United States – a total eclipse of the sun, the first total eclipse visible only in the USA since the country was founded in 1776.

For further information on this ‘Route 66 & Highway 1 self-drive holiday’, including the full itinerary, or for details on any other tailor-made journey, contact Medway Leisure Travel on 01622 608256 or visit www.medwayleisuretravel.co.uk.
