Visitors to Jedburgh Castle Jail & Museum in the Scottish Borders are invited to experience the historic attraction in two completely new ways.
It comes with the launch of the region’s first escape room alongside an immersive new guided tour.
The Castle and Jail, appropriately built on what was Gallows Hill, is the perfect starting point for the Jedburgh story.
The present-day building, built in 1820 as a model debtors prison, occupies the original site of Jedburgh Castle erected for King David 1 in the 12th century.
The new Unlocked programme, built around that a bloody past and a very spooky present, homes in on a mysterious death and access to parts of the jail that have been closed for generations.
UNSOLVED: The Malcolm Munro Case is a brand-new immersive escape room where teams have 50 minutes to investigate the mysterious death of a local woman in 1884.
Searching for clues, solving puzzles and piecing together the evidence, visitors must work together to uncover the truth before time runs out.
Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Jedburgh Castle Jail, the experience combines teamwork, problem-solving and storytelling in a unique historic setting
UNLOCKED: The Hidden Cell Tour offers exclusive access to parts of the jail
that have remained closed to visitors.
Led by a costumed guide, the immersive tour explores hidden areas of the prison, including the atmospheric Male Prisoners’ Cell Block, bringing to life the stories of prisoners, governors, reformers and the local community connected to the jail.
The experience offers visitors a rare opportunity to discover the hidden history behind one of the Borders’ most iconic heritage attractions.
