Set sail with Andante

At last – a chance to broaden our horizons.

And those with a special interest in the past will welcome the exceptional portfolio of travel offers announced by award-winning tour operator Andante Travels.

Andante has added an exciting river itinerary to its growing cruise programme that explores the archaeology of the Rhône in France.

This nine-day cruise will be spent aboard the MS Camargue, a floating equivalent to a four-star hotel, and showcases the archaeology, culture and heritage to be found along this historic river.

Highlights include visits to the exceptional amphitheatre and archaeological museum at Arles (below left), the iconic Pont du Gard, the important site of Glanum (below right) with its famous triumphal arch and mausoleum, and a chance to explore the Palais des Papes in Avignon.

Exclusive Andante excursions throughout the tour, will be led by John Shepherd, a specialist in Roman provincial archaeology. They include a visit to the prehistoric site of Roche de Solutré, a tour of the Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon-Fourvière and a privately organised wine-tasting in the renowned wine-producing area of Tain L’Hermitage.

Egypt – Cruising the Nile – Departs 25th April and 29th August

Led by expert Dr Elizabeth Bloxam, this stunning itinerary travels 410 miles between Cairo and
Aswan, on a journey that includes a stretch of the river that has only been reopened for a few
years. Guests will visit sites that include the temples at Abu Simbel, Seti I’s temple at Abydos, and the Red and White Coptic Monasteries. This carefully crafted tour also includes a chance to travel through Middle Egypt
to explore the rarely visited sites of Beni Hasan and Amarna.

Moorish Wonders of the Guadalquivir and Guadiana – Departs 15th September

An eight-day cruise is led by expert Guide Lecturer Doru Bogdan, it explores Andalucia and the Algarve. Highlights include visits to the Alhambra, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba and the historic remains of Cádiz. Guests will also discover Itálica, the oldest Roman city outside of Italy.

Antiquity of the Aegean – Departs 9th July

Explore the fascinating islands of the Cyclades and Dodecanese on this nine-day cruise aboard
led by expert Guide Lecturer Aristotle Koskinas. Highlights include visits to the inimitable ruins of Athens, a chance to examine the unique Minoan ruins in Akrotiri on the island of Crete and a full day’s discovery of the
archaeology on the awe-inspiring island of Delos – a UNESCO-listed site in its entirety.

Treasures of the Dalmatian Coast – Departs 15th October

Guests on this exclusive cruise will spend seven nights on the MS Equator as they discover
ancient Dalmatia in the expert company of John Shepherd. Stops include the perfectly
preserved Gothic towns of Hvar and Korčula, the gorgeous ‘green island’ of Mljet and beach-
fringed Brač. There will also be visits to Diocletian’s Palace in Split and a walking tour of historic
Dubrovnik.
